Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. Dao Viet Dung, ACV's Board of Directors Member, emphasized the strategic role of Ca Mau Airport as a crucial transportation gateway. It not only connects the southernmost point of the country with economic and political centers but also holds special significance for national defense and security. However, after a long period of operation, the existing infrastructure of Ca Mau Airport is small-scale, only capable of accommodating low-altitude, short-haul aircraft, and has not met the growing demands for transportation, economic development, tourism, and national security of Ca Mau province and the region.

The investment in expanding and upgrading Ca Mau Airport not only addresses the urgent needs of civil aviation operations but is also a crucial factor in ensuring national defense and security, contributing to socio-economic development, promoting tourism, and attracting investment to the Mekong Delta region.

After a period of preparing design documents, carrying out demining operations, and coordinating closely with various levels of government and local authorities to complete site clearance on schedule, the "Expansion and Upgrade of Ca Mau Airport" project has made significant progress.

With the goal of expanding and upgrading Ca Mau Airport to accommodate modern aircraft such as the A320, A321, and their equivalents, the project has been assigned to ACV as the investor, funded by the Corporation's own capital with a total investment of approximately 2,400 billion VND.

This is a Level I aviation transport project with a scope that includes the following main components:

  • Construction of a runway measuring 2,400m x 45m with a cement concrete surface, ensuring the capability to handle A320/A321 aircraft and their equivalents.
  • Construction of a taxiway connecting the runway and the aircraft apron, 128m in length with a basic width of 15m, with a cement concrete structure to handle A320/A321 aircraft and their equivalents.
  • Construction of an aircraft apron measuring 182m x 112.5m with a cement concrete surface, providing 03 parking positions for A320/A321 aircraft and their equivalents.
  • Renovation and expansion of the existing terminal to increase its capacity to 500,000 domestic passengers per year, with the potential for expansion to 1 million passengers per year when needed.
  • Construction of integrated auxiliary facilities: an access road connecting the passenger terminal and the aircraft apron; a patrol road; an airfield drainage system; a fence system with security cameras and lighting; a precision landing system; and an airfield signage and lighting system.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Huynh Chi Nguyen, Vice Chairman of the Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee, acknowledged and commended the consensus and support from all levels of government and residents in the project area. Thanks to this favorable support, the project was able to break ground as planned, demonstrating the local community's unity in implementing the policies of the Government.
