On July 16, 2025, Cat Bi International Airport welcomed a flight from AirAsia, officially inaugurating the new route connecting Hai Phong (Vietnam) with Bangkok (Thailand). The inaugural ceremony was attended by the Director of Cat Bi International Airport, Mr. Lam Manh Hung, along with representative leaders and staff from the Airport and the airline.
A ceremonial water cannon salute was performed to celebrate the new route's inauguration
The Hai Phong – Bangkok route will be operated by AirAsia with a frequency of four round-trip flights per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, using Airbus A320/A321 aircraft. This is a direct route connecting Hai Phong city with the capital, Bangkok, a leading economic, cultural, and tourism hub in the Southeast Asian region.
The new route not only significantly shortens the geographical distance between Vietnam's northern coastal region and Thailand but also contributes to promoting bilateral tourism, creating favorable conditions for the people of both countries to discover unique cultures, cuisines, and landscapes. Furthermore, this route enhances trade and economic connectivity, expands investment opportunities between Vietnamese and Thai businesses, and supports the communities of expatriates, international students, experts, and workers in traveling easily between the two nations.
