Noi Bai International Airport (HAN) is implementing numerous integrated solutions to improve operational efficiency and enhance passenger service quality, especially amidst the high traffic volume expected for the 2025 summer peak season.

Strong Growth in Passenger Volume

In the first half of 2025, passenger volume through the airport reached 16.5 million, with a total of over 100,000 aircraft movements. Notably, the major air route between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, with Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat as its start and end points, has consistently been among the world's top 10 busiest domestic routes. This creates exceptionally high operational frequency and service pressure. Concurrently, Noi Bai's International Terminal T2 served over 7 million international passengers in the first half of the year, operating beyond its designed capacity (Terminal T2's current capacity is 10 million passengers per year and it is undergoing an expansion to increase this to 15 million passengers per year).

Amidst this operational pressure, the On-Time Performance (OTP) rate over the past year (from June 1, 2024, to May 31, 2025) has been maintained at 74%. The primary causes for delays during this period were airline operational activities (93.8%); weather-related reasons accounted for 1.8%, airport equipment and services for 0.8%, air traffic control for 2.5%, and other causes for 1.1% of all delayed flights. Noi Bai International Airport recognizes that this index needs further improvement and is actively coordinating with airlines and ground handling units to implement integrated solutions to raise the OTP rate in the near future.

Optimizing Flight Operations with Technology: Since February 1, 2024, Noi Bai International Airport has officially implemented Phase 1 of the A-CDM (Airport Collaborative Decision Making) model. Through this, relevant units at the airport have been proactive in collaborative decision-making and information sharing, while efficiently using flight data to ensure operations comply with A-CDM procedures. In the first six months of the year, over 100,000 flights were managed through this system, helping to effectively coordinate the use of runways and aprons, minimize ground waiting times, and contribute to improving flight punctuality.

Additionally, Noi Bai International Airport continues to coordinate closely with the Air Traffic Flow Management Center (ATFMC), airlines, and ground handling units to implement multi-nodal Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) Level 3 in Vietnam. This enhances the proactiveness of airlines in managing their flight schedules and minimizes holding patterns for flights affected by adverse operational conditions such as weather, military flight activities, or national political and economic events.

Accelerating Infrastructure Upgrade Projects: The expansion project for Passenger Terminal T2 at Noi Bai is being urgently carried out, with construction proceeding alongside ongoing operations. Upon completion (expected at the end of 2025), the project will fundamentally resolve the issue of overcrowding, create more spacious areas, and enhance passenger service capacity.

Tightening Management and Enhancing Service Quality: Noi Bai International Airport is conducting a comprehensive review of the operations of its concessionaires, requiring them to ensure quality, transparent pricing policy, and improve staff service attitudes. Violations will be handled strictly according to contracts. The airport continues to invest in technology to increase convenience, such as deploying biometric check-in using the VNeID platform, equipping self-service check-in kiosk systems, and offering the ACV iCUTE online check-in platform to enhance the passenger experience.

Ensuring Absolute Security and Safety of Flight Operations: Security and safety remain the top priorities. These efforts continued to receive a "Good" rating from eight international airlines and the Australian aviation security authorities' assessment team during the first half of the year.
