On the afternoon of August 2, 2025, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh conducted a direct inspection of the construction site and hosted a progress review meeting for the Long Thanh International Airport construction project. Attending the event were Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh, leaders of central ministries and agencies, and local authorities.

This marks the Prime Minister’s eighth visit to the project site, clearly demonstrating his deep concern and decisive leadership. He has continuously monitored, urged progress, and conducted on-site inspections to ensure that this national key project is completed on schedule.

At the site, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the delegation inspected the construction of the second runway, then moved to the passenger terminal area to directly assess the site and listen to reports on construction status and progress.

Reporting to the Prime Minister, ACV Chairman Vu The Phiet stated that Component Project 03 – essential airport facilities including the passenger terminal, the "heart" of the project – is being invested in by Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) with a total investment of over VND 99,000 billion. ACV is coordinating with a consortium of contractors to carry out construction with the spirit of “around-the-clock work”. Nearly 13,000 experts, engineers, workers, and laborers, along with about 3,000 pieces of machinery, have been mobilized to work in a “3 shifts, 4 teams” model, continuously through holidays and Tet, as directed by the Prime Minister.

The total completed volume has reached 50.73% of the contract. Many components are ahead of schedule, notably Runway No. 1, taxiways, and aircraft aprons, which are essentially completed. On April 26, 2025, the lighting system for Runway No. 1 was successfully tested, three months ahead of schedule.

Regarding connecting traffic routes, Route No. 1 and the National Highway 51 interchange were officially opened for technical traffic on April 30, 2025. Route No. 2 is expected to be completed and opened on National Day, September 2, 2025.

Other core components are also being accelerated. Package 5.10 – the passenger terminal – currently has 4,700 personnel and over 1,000 machines and equipment on site. 99% of the steel roof structure has been completed, and the central roof structure is expected to be finished by August 15, 2025. Structural work and installation of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems are being carried out in sequence to meet the required schedule. Additionally, construction of aircraft aprons, internal airport roads, and fuel systems is being expedited to meet early completion targets.

Notably, Runway No. 2 began construction in late May and is currently undergoing simultaneous groundwork and foundation work. The goal is to complete it in sync with the passenger terminal and begin operations by June 2026.

Although the rainy season arrived earlier than expected, affecting some underground components, ACV and contractors quickly adjusted plans and applied suitable construction methods to maintain progress.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh praised the efforts of the construction units and emphasized the spirit of “speed and boldness,” “only discuss how to do, not whether to do,” and the “3 shifts, 4 teams” approach to ensure progress. He set the target for basic completion of the project by December 19, 2025, with inauguration as scheduled and commercial operations beginning in early 2026.

Prime Minister also instructed that high quality and safety must be ensured, and preparations made for future airport operations. He specifically directed ACV to establish a food service area to take good care of the staff and workers on site.

The Prime Minister’s strong directives serve as a powerful motivation for ACV and contractors to complete the Long Thanh International Airport project on time, contributing to the country’s socio-economic development.
